After churning out some yummy blueberry/blackberry topping for my (ahem, multi-grain) waffles this morning, I conducted an interview with a retired Baptist minister for my Racism in America class. Oh, he's also Oberlin and Yale-educated, a social liberal, and was my mom's Vice Chair for the Clay County Democrats. Because I'm shy, I'd hoped to just email him my questions (mostly about the Civil Rights movement) and have him write back with his answers, but alas, he preferred to talk on the phone. I’m glad he did. Perhaps I should have expected that a minister would be
more than adept at speaking. Rather than going through my questions one-by-one, his answers were woven into a story and I was completely enthralled. Since I couldn't record our conversation word for word, I'm writing about it in the third person, with as many quotes as possible.
I posted an excerpt of it behind the cut
